SABERTOOTH TIGER Extinction is Inevitable CD
Sabertooth Tiger, featuring members of Mars Volta and Original Sins, traffics in political hardcore punk. They're the real deal, for sure, laying down the facts the government doesn't want you to know and they've even got a Chomsky quote in the booklet to prove it... Truthfully, it's hard for me to believe that anyone could take this seriously; I would think even 16-year olds are too worldly these days to swallow this stuff whole. I could really care less about a band's politics for the most part, as long as they display some minimal level of intelligence and a vaguely coherent philosophy, but a look at the lyric sheet (of course it's included) confirms Sabertooth Tiger can't clear that bar. The music provides no relief; they're throwing down generic hardcore across the board, with a slightly lurching, overly strident vibe that just ups the annoyance level. The revolution ain't coming, boys, it's time to suck it up and get a day job. With any luck you'll have built up a healthy 401(k) balance by the time one of the Bush daughters mounts the presidential throne.
And, by the way, I'm not kidding about the Chomsky quote in the booklet. What's with these hardcore lefties, don't they read anybody else? I've never read a Chomsky book myself, but I would guess that his books include a bibliography or at least provide some clues for further readings. Surely, if someone found his work so fascinating and instructive, they would search out other authors who think along the same lines. Or is reading Chomsky some uncomfortable but necessary rite to certify oneself as a radical, the diametrical opposite of a frat hazing? [Gold Standard Laboratories]
