THE DIVORCEE directed by Robert Z. Leonard; 1930, MGM/UA Home Video

A brilliant, sophisticated pre-Code gem starring Norma Shearer, who won an Academy Award for best actress for her portrayal of an independently minded newlywed, and her attempts to even the score with her cheating husband. This was a great period in cinema history, before the Hayes Code kicked in 1934 and ruined the fun, forbidding lascivious behavior and unpunished violence in films right up until the late '60s. After The Divorcée, you would be wise to seek out Jean Harlow in the downright lewd Red Dust (1932), or the fantabulous Baby Face (1933) with Barbara Stanwyck.
