SUBWAYS All or Nothing CD

UK trio all full of crit hype and MTV-friendly crooning and the effect is less than stunning. And they sure don't want to let you forget that Garbage drummer and Nirvana producer Butch Vig manned the board for this, their sophomore full-length. It all reeks of music-biz bullshit, big-buck festival tours and calculated charges through the U.S. market that stops where the Billboard chart dictates. The music is bad pedestrian pop that the Buzzcocks opened and closed the door on, and the production dynamics, while solid and heavy, obscure the possibility that there is a heart behind the oppressively commercial bombast. Speaking of music-biz bullshit: Is Seymour Stein really signing this kind of crap these days? [Sire]
