JOSEPH ARTHUR AND THE LONELY ASTRONAUTS Temporary People CD
This album required multiple spins for me to form an opinion, which got me worried. However, there is something super-sweet in the Exile on Main Street jingle-jangle, get wasted and make out with strangers songs here.Â
In these songs I see beautiful, smart girls that leave the beautiful, fucked-up boys when their innate nature gets too much. Then there's the boy side of the story. Admittedly, the album lost my attention in a few places and some of the lyrics were predictable however, good moments happened for me here: “Faith” is hug your drunk buddies fun; “Dead Savior” is a good ass-shaker; “Say Goodbye” is a pretty “Angie”-ish, lovers leaving, sing-along; and, “Heart's a Soldier” has really awesome choir-style background vocals.
I think this record has a time and place—3 AM, you want to get your make-out on, and you want the boy or girl that you are with to dig the cool tunes you are sharing with the—and them alone. [Lonely Astronaut]
