All music has a story and the saga of These Trails makes the music—a folky mélange of little interest to anyone outside the most ardent Fairport Convention fan or Renaissance fair attendee.

It’s created by a couple of Hawaiians named Margaret and Patrick. They met in the 70s as adolescents on the trails that run up the coast of Kauai. They parted, then reconnected after some traveling. They made some music, which purport to be “love songs to their islands” in the liner notes. But the songs, 12 of them covering 36 minutes, are really tributes to the British folk explosion of the 60s. Like the sounds of Fairport/Steeleye/Incredibles, there is plenty of trilling guitar and emotional, sometimes overwrought vocalizing. [Drag City]
